Why LED Lighting?

Light emitting diodes (LEDs) are based upon semiconductor technology and do not contain a filament or mercury, as do current lighting technologies. Around 1962, LEDs were originally put into limited practical use due to their approximate cost of $200.00 per LED. Today, LEDs are prevalent in almost every electronic device manufactured, with low grade indicator type diodes costing less than a penny each.

Until very recently, high quality, high intensity LEDs required for area lighting applications have only been available in limited quantities and at very high prices. With exponential advancements in LED technologies in recent years, we now have the required diodes necessary to create ultra efficient, long lasting, and affordable LED lighting systems.

Jeff Bingaman“LEDs are an obvious area that we can achieve energy savings and we can also achieve economic benefits – job creation.”
